Job Title: Payroll Assistant


Location: Yeovil, Somerset


Salary: £28,000 - £31,000 PA DOE


Hours: 30-37.5 hours, Monday to Friday flexible dependant on the candidate. The company also offers flexi time with 10-4 being the core hours

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys managing payroll processes, building strong client relationships, and working in a supportive environment where accuracy and customer service are highly valued. They are always developing their staff and will fully support you with further qualifications and achieving your CIPP Level 3


The Role


As a Payroll Assistant, you'll be responsible for managing a portfolio of payroll clients and ensuring payrolls are processed accurately and on time. You'll work closely with clients, HMRC, and pension providers while ensuring all statutory deadlines are consistently met.


Key Responsibilities



  • Processing weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls for a variety of clients

  • Setting up new payroll clients and HMRC accounts

  • Processing starters, leavers and payroll amendments

  • Submitting RTI reports to HMRC

  • Issuing employee payslips and payroll summaries to clients

  • Managing auto-enrolment pension submissions and reconciliations

  • Calculating and reconciling PAYE payments and Attachment of Earnings Orders

  • Liaising with pension providers regarding client schemes

  • Responding to payroll-related queries from clients and HMRC

  • Ensuring compliance with payroll legislation and filing deadlines

  • Supporting colleagues across the wider team as required

  • Assisting with administrative duties, system updates and general office support

  • Providing clients with up-to-date information on payroll legislation changes


About You


To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have:



  • Previous payroll administration experience

  • Strong understanding of payroll legislation and compliance requirements

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

  • Confident communication skills and a professional telephone manner

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritise workloads effectively

  • Strong IT skills and experience using payroll software

  • A proactive approach and willingness to support the wider team
