Software Development Team Leader

JOB TITLE: Software Development Team Leader



HOURS: 37.5 hours Monday to Friday (flexibility on start and finish times)

  • To act as the team lead for the DevOps function (comprising analysts, developers and testers), which provides Tier 3 application support and product maintenance activities.

  • To work with functional and technical Tier 2 support teams to prioritise and resolve customer issues as efficiently as possible.

  • To contribute hands-on development expertise to achieve the aims of the DevOps team.

  • To ensure and maintain the high quality of applications with regard to minimising defects, optimising performance and adhering to security best practices.

  • To plan and deliver maintenance releases and work with development leaders to jointly plan and deliver feature releases.

  • To maintain oversight of test protocols/plans and progress against them.

  • To ensure that mandatory software changes, such as legislative or exam board mandated updates, are delivered within specified timescales.

  • To ensure that applications are developed in accordance with company coding standards and other processes as defined by development leaders.

  • To contribute, as and when required, to the design and specification process of applications.


  • Work with the Support Manager and peers to prioritise and manage team workload.

  • Ensure that new issues are dealt with efficiently by self or team members and are clearly documented in accordance with company procedures.

  • Use skill and expertise to define, prioritise and plan work for inclusion into maintenance releases.

  • Produce clear, accurate and efficient code in accordance with company coding standards and other processes as defined by development leaders.

  • Oversee testing activities to ensure a high confidence in build quality prior to release.

  • Work with key stakeholders to deliver releases in accordance with company procedures.

  • Work with development leaders to ensure that team activities align with broader company goals.

  • Lead, motivate and mentor the DevOps team, including conducting regular reviews and maintaining objectives in line with company processes.

  • Escalate any problems or concerns to the Support Manager or development leaders as appropriate.


  • Experience of leading or managing a team.

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Experience of source control.

  • Experience of test management.

  • ASP.NET (C#)

  • Experience of databases such as PostgreSQL, MSSQL, MySQL.
