Office Angels currently have an opportunity for a School Business Manager to join a dedicated team of staff at a local academy in Darlington, who are committed to providing the best possible education for their pupils.

The desired candidate will have previous experience of working within a school office, in either a Business Support Officer or School Business Manager role.

Start date will ideally be August, therefore a short-notice period is beneficial, however for the right candidate the company will consider a start date in September. This role can be considered on a temporary or permanent contract basis.

  • Start Date: ASAP, however a notice period can be considered

  • Hours: 36 hours per week

  • Contract: 1-year fixed term to cover maternity leave

  • Salary: £36,922 - £39,880, depending on experience

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience of working within Education, with the ability to manage, lead and motivate a team. Your will including managing diverse teams to ensure all outcomes are successfully met with regard to school operational requirements, thus contributing to the success of school strategies, activities and operations, creating a vibrant, safe, secure space to deliver effective Teaching & Learning.


  • To lead, manage and promote a culture of open-door leadership

  • Maintaining systems and procedure to ensure the efficient operation of the Headteacher

  • To provide day-to-day administration support to the Headteacher in a discreet and highly confidential manner including typing letters and reports.

  • To answer routine enquiries from staff, parents and other agencies made to the Headteacher and wider leadership team and to deal with them effectively, in the first instance wherever possible

  • To manage the administration teams to ensure the efficient and effective operations

  • To administer the complaints process until resolution

  • Records management in line with GDPR compliance and school policy

  • Raising of purchase requisitions and orders

  • Ensure all visitors are checked and comply with safeguarding regulation and DBS register is managed according to safeguarding requirements

  • Facility & Property and Health & Safety Management; maintaining policies, procedures, upkeep and smooth running of school premises and assets

  • Manage and monitor pre-planned and reactive maintenance schedules and contracts

  • Management of COSHH

  • Ensure ancillary services e.g., catering, cleaning, etc., are managed and monitored effectively, in line with specific policies, health & safety requirements, school food standards, nutritional standards and allergen compliance

  • All policies relating to Site, Premises, and Vehicles are implemented, adhered to and regularly updated.

  • Ensure compliant Fire and Evacuation plans are in place and reviewed regularly

  • Line management responsibilities where appropriate including recruitment, induction, performance management and ongoing training/upskilling of staff

  • To manage and record the day-to-day absence, LOA administration and other general staffing matters including but not limited to annual leave entitlements and monitoring working time commitments

  • To act as Cover Manager utilising MIS and line management of Cover Supervisors

  • To complete occupational health referrals supported by HR Manager

  • Arrange suitable levels of training for staff for Site Staff, Catering Staff, Fire Wardens, First Aid and Administration of Medication

Safeguarding responsibilities

  • The postholder will be aware of child protection issues and the need for confidentiality and to identify to the named child protection colleague in school, concerns in respect of individual children.

  • To be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to Child Protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person

  • To support the protocols and systems that are in place to address the needs of children with special educational needs and 'children in need' as defined by the Children Act
