JOB TITLE: Product Excellence and Quality Lead

LOCATION: Bridgwater, Somerset

SALARY: Circa £35K - £40K PA

HOURS: 8.45am - 5.15pm, Monday to Friday

THE ROLE: The Product Excellence Engineer will primarily be responsible for ensuring quality compliance and delivering process improvement, through continuous Improvement initiatives. You will be responsible for investigating customer complaints and internal and external auditing function and auditing processes, maintaining the Company's recognised standards, including managing the readiness to respond to customer audits. You will be responsible for the leading, developing, improving, measuring and monitoring of manufacturing and quality performance against agreed KPI's while overseeing a team of 4 Quality Specialists.


  • Deliver appropriate training that will reach, or exceed the knowledge and skills required of the Quality team in order to maintain the Company agreed standards.

  • Responsible for auditing existing practises, proactively challenging and questioning to ensure compliance and improvements take place.

  • Driving continuous improvements and defining corrective actions for non-conforming products and complaints.

  • Resolving issues and developing and implementing solutions to ensure customer satisfaction and compliance.

  • Coordinating day-to-day activities of the Quality Specialists Team and acting as the first point of escalation for any quality issues.

  • Actively contributing and participating in the management and maintenance of Quality Management Systems and associated documentation.

  • Participating in preparation and taking the site through the customer and 3rd party audits as well as helping with delivery of corrective actions.

  • Playing a pivotal role in delivering the internal audit program by conducting and coordinating audits with the auditor team.

  • Collating, summarising and sharing information through concise reports and using initiative to follow up on identified improvement opportunities.

  • Actively driving quality system improvements using product audits, specification reviews and working closely with the commercial teams, Innovations, CI Champion and Operations teams to achieve the required quality standards and outputs.

  • Leading projects and teams with minimum supervision and guidance e.g. costs saving initiatives.

  • Responsible for the measuring and monitoring of manufacturing and quality performance against agreed KPI's. Implementing recommendations and driving continuous improvement.

  • Effective and transparent communications with all sectors of the business including internal stakeholders and external suppliers and/or customers, influencing others and showing courage in decision making.

  • Investigation of non-conformances / CAPA's utilising root cause analysis techniques.


The successful candidate will be customer focused and have experience of delivering excellent quality standards in a manufacturing environment. Have excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt and deliver complex information to an appropriate level of understanding to meet the needs of the audience. With exceptional analytical skills the Quality Engineer will be able to collect and interpret data to make informed and logical conclusions and recommendations.

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent in quality assurance, engineering or scientific discipline.

  • Quality Management principles qualification or Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing.

  • Demonstrable experience in Statistical Analysis e.g. Use of Excel, PowerBI, Minitab or other statistics tools.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance such as ISO, BRC, FDA and controlled environmental standards.

  • ISO / FSSC / BRC or GFSI - Lead Quality Auditor

  • Experience in Risk Assessments mapping. E.g. use of FMEA and/or HACCP process mapping
