Job Title: Legal Secretary (Agriculture)


Location: Wells, Somerset


Salary: £21K


Hours: 8.30am - 5pm Monday to Friday

The Role:


This is an initial maternity cover for one year but will lead to a permanent position.


This position is to support the growing Agriculture team by assisting a team of fee earners in the daily running of fee earning work. This is an initial maternity cover for one year but will lead to a permanent position.


You will provide support to the team on matters including disposals and acquisitions of farms and land, advising landowners on options and small scale development sites, easements, agricultural tenancy issues (for both landlords and tenants), advising on farming partnerships and other land or asset sharing arrangements in the rural sector and secured lending.


There will be the requirement for this role to complete some basic fee earning tasks and record time.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Provide support for supervising lawyers

  • Assist fee earners with agricultural matters.

  • Assist with searches, enquiries, drafting of legal reports and documents; and liaise with professional advisors.

  • Assist with drafting the relevant legal documentation to include Contracts, Transfers, Agricultural Residential Tenancies and Promotion Agreements.

  • Assist the team in completing legal documents with the ability to take matters on after exchange and through completion including then all necessary registrations. Complete secretarial work for the team. This includes opening and closing client files, drafting letters, land registry checks.

  • Ensure that the team's diaries are up to date and manage the booking of meetings. Assist the fee earner in the preparation of meetings - i.e. not only ensure they can be in the right place at the right time but also that they have all the papers with them that they need for the meeting.

  • Assist in real estate closings, contract writing, filing articles of incorporation and partnership agreements


The Person:



  • High accuracy and attention to detail, even when under pressure

  • Good numeracy

  • Experience and an interest in Commercial Property / Agriculture

  • Fantastic telephone manner and client service skills

  • A keen interest in dealing with agricultural and rural property.

  • Display a positive attitude and be flexible.

  • Strong communication skills.


Desirable Requirements



  • Full UK Driving licence

  • Legal Qualifications (e.g CILEx or paralegal qualifications)
