Laundry Assistant

Reports to: Head Housekeeper

Job description:

To provide a high quality, infection free laundry service. To ensure that the laundry is maintained in a hygienic clean and safe standard to provide clean, well presented and well maintained linen to residents and other departments. To follow operational procedures of the housekeeping and laundry department.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Follow Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) REGULATIONS.

  • Complete housekeeping and laundry paperwork accurately, in line with policies.

  • Ensure personal mandatory training is up to date.

Operational Standards

  • Handle all laundry in line with operating procedures keeping clean and dirty laundry separate.

  • Follow wash charts when processing laundry in washing machines. Check garment labels when drying and ironing items.

  • Stock linen cupboards and ensure they are organised. Report damaged linen or clothing to the head housekeeper and remove from circulation.

  • Iron and finish residents clothing, repair if needed. Ensure items are hung or folded neatly.

  • Organise dry cleaning as needed and keep a record of all costs.

  • In conjunction with care staff, label new resident's garments.

  • Report condition of residents clothing to the head of the unit to enable replacements to be purchased by the next of kin.

  • Report poor wash results to head of housekeeping.

  • Talk to residents and take feedback and make necessary changes to laundry routines.

  • Operate the washing machines, tumble dryers and irons safely.

  • Use cleaning substances in accordance with the manufacture's instructions and use efficiently to prevent wastage.

  • Ensure the laundry and chemical stores are locked when not in use. Chemicals must never be left unattended.

  • Use safety signage when cleaning floors e.g Wet Floors/Cleaning in Process.

  • Report all maintenance and safety hazards and withdraw faulty equipment from use immediately.


Adhere to the local safe guarding policy.

Follow the rota developed by the Head housekeeper.

Work alongside team members when staff shortages occur.

Pay: £10.65 per hour
