A rare opportunity has arisen to join a well established Sheffield financial services business within their IT team.

Senior IT Support Technician

Full time , Permanent

Monday - Friday


£30,000pa - £33,000pa depending on experience

Free on site parking plus other company benefits

The purpose of this role is to support to support IT with 3rd line issues with the infrastructure and key systems. As the senior person in the Sheffield IT team, you will be expected to manage requests from the rest of the IT team and issues brought up by business managers.

You should be confident in balancing operational and project demands and be expected to take a lead role within IT projects.


  • Senior contact in the Sheffield office, responsible for all aspects of users and applications

  • Helpdesk administration, queue management, user support and fault resolution

  • Database support and administration of SQL databases

  • 3rd line support of systems, Windows SQL, Exchange service and VMWare

  • 3rd line support of network and security infrastructure

  • Directly reporting to Infrastructure & Service Manager

  • Project management

  • Produce project documentation and business analytic

  • Be aware of IT commercials and cost / benefit analysis

Experience Desired:

  • Experience working in a similar role, working within Financial Service may be a benefit

  • Good knowledge of SQL and Oracle database technologies

  • In depth experience with common user applications such as Microsoft Application suite

  • Knowledge of the operational and support aspects of computer systems, hardware and software

  • SAN technologies (EMC) experience

  • LAN, WAN and Firewall technologies experience

  • Knowledge of Aruba, Meraki and Barracuda

  • Knowledge of Windows XP and Windows 7

  • SQL support experience

  • Laptop / desktop support experience

  • Server support experience

  • Good knowledge of developing in HTML, JAVA and PHP

  • Basic telephone support including IP telephony
