HR Advisor *Flexible hours + 25 days a/l*

Job Title: HR Advisor


Location: Near Canterbury (Office based)


Industry: Expanding Manufacturing business


Hours: Monday-Friday, 39 hours per week, core hours 10am-12pm, 2pm-4pm, an early finish of 12pm on Friday is available if you complete all your contracted hours


Benefits: 25 days annual leave + bank holidays (3/4 to be used over the Christmas break)


The purpose of this role is to provide an efficient and effective HR Service for all areas within the business, undertaking all generalist HR duties.


The purpose of your role would be to provide business-focussed, visible, generalist HR advice, guidance and interventions across all business units within the group, providing end to end support across the employee life-cycle including on boarding, advice and support. Supporting the HR Manager to ensure an efficient and proactive HR service is given across the group, that compliance and legislation is maintained and systems are up to date, frequently looking at efficiencies and ways to streamline and improve processes.


Your key responsibilities as the new HR Advisor would be to:


Employee Relations



  • Act as first line of contact for all employee queries relating to terms and conditions, policies, benefits and other ad hoc queries.

  • Develop good relationships with Line Managers across each business unit, coaching and providing advice on employment matters such as recruitment, disciplinaries/grievances and performance management and annual review processes.

  • Support Managers in Disciplinary, Grievance and Probationary hearings, guiding and advising the Manager during the hearing and providing a robust case management throughout the process, attending on site meetings as required.

  • Manage sickness absence cases and communicate with employees whose absence levels are approaching sick pay cut off points as applicable.

  • Manage an ER caseload ensuring investigations are managed promptly and effectively.


Recruitment



  • Completing requisitions for new roles, drafting job descriptions and person specifications, benchmarking and advising on salaries, in liaison with recruiting Manager.

  • Managing the advertising of roles as appropriate. Screening CVs to facilitate recruitment tests and assist with interviews for technical and support staff as required.

  • Conducting HR induction training for new starters and support with HR training.


Systems/Processes



  • First point of contact for queries relating to the HR System, taking on a 'super user' role to act as administrator for logins and changes to roles etc.

  • Lead in the management and maintenance of data contained in the HR system and employee e-records.

  • Ensure that changes to individual staff records are processed efficiently within agreed timescales, liaising with managers, and payroll staff as appropriate and ensuring GDPR compliance is maintained at all times

  • Responsibility for the documentation and co-ordination of HR processes and associated paperwork.

  • Work with the HR Manager to develop and produce monthly, quarterly and other reports on HR activity.


Employment Law, Policies and GDPR



  • Have a thorough understanding of GDPR and HR law relating to contracts, terms and conditions, discrimination, maternity/ paternity, shared parental leave, dismissal processes, grievances, etc.

  • Knowledge and understanding of all policies and their practical application to provide advice and support to staff at all levels.

  • Support the HR Manager in the development and revision of employment policies.

  • Support the development, integration and implementation of HR policy and practice through methods including the coaching/training of managers and employees, and the production of relevant materials, communications and toolkits

  • Ensure personal knowledge and awareness of relevant legislation and other best practice developments relevant to the HR function are kept up to date.


Other duties:



  • Travel to other sites nationally and occasional overnight stays.

  • Level 1 SMS user for Home Office Sponsorship system.

  • Deputise for the HR Manager in their absence and undertake any other duties as required for the effective running of the HR function.


Skills/Experience required:



  • Solid HR Advisory experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment

  • CIPD level 3 qualification essential, Level 5 desirable

  • Awareness of latest developments within employment legislation

  • An excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and HR systems

  • The flexibility to work outside normal office hours and travel UK wide as may be required from time-to-time
