Job Title: HR Advisor (6 Month Fixed Term Contract initially)

Location: Bridgwater, Somerset (office based)

Salary: up to £35,000 dependant on experience (pro rata)

Hours: Monday-Thursday 8.30am-5pm, Friday 8.30am-4pm

Benefits: 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (pro rata). Generous pension and life insurance entitlement.

The Company: This is an exciting and rare opportunity to join a global FMCG company who really value their staff.

The role: Our client are looking for an approachable, engaging and friendly HR Advisor to join their small team. You will provide expert advice and support to the operations teams on all HR related activity. From recruitment, to managing absence cases and providing KPI data this will be a truly varied generalist role. We are looking for an knowledgeable Advisor with prior experience of working within a fast paced environment, who is able to plan and prioritise their own workload and be solutions focused, with excellent and proven analytical IT skills. You will be pro-active, able to establish rapport and credibility with others, with up to date knowledge of UK employment legislation and its practical application, and be confident giving advice on policies and processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Performance & Absence Management

  • Ensures all conduct matters are dealt with in a timely and efficient manner either through informal counselling or consideration through more formal route as appropriate by supporting line managers through investigations in line with company policies and procedures

  • Monitors absence levels with the support of the HR Administrator

  • Supporting and coaching line managers through the company absence management procedures

  • Monitors and ensures that the annual appraisal and objective setting deadline is met

Recruitment & Retention

  • Ensure vacancies are proactively managed to ensure there is no disruption to the business

  • Support the HR Administrator in ensuring accurate and timely offers and contracts are issued.

  • Complete company induction for all new employees as part of an efficient and effective on boarding programme

  • Ensure all employees receive timely and honest feedback during their monthly probationary review meetings and that all competence or conduct issues are managed within this period.

  • Ensure all leavers receive an exit interview in order to identify and document accurate reasons for leaving and opportunities for improvement

Learning & Development

  • Undertake line manager briefing/training/workshops on both new processes and procedures and refreshers to ensure they are fully embedded into the business

  • Support roll out of L&D initiatives as appropriate and necessary

Employee Relations

  • Work closely with line managers, providing them with advice, guidance and coaching in line with the company policies and procedures and employment terms and conditions of employment to ensure a consistent and fair approach is adopted at all times

  • Ensure that managers and staff are aware of the policies and procedures and able to operate them effectively; conducting briefing/training sessions as required.


  • Ensure personal continued professional development is undertaken to keep up to date with the latest legislative requirement

  • Ensure that employees receive accurate and timely communications

  • Participate in various internal groups and committees as required.

  • Provide KPI data to the leadership team

  • Support projects such as Great Place to Work

  • Ambassador of company behaviours, leading by example

Skills, experience and knowledge requirements:

  • Minimum GCSE Level educated in English and Maths

  • CIPD (or equivalent in experience) to Level 5 (Desirable)

  • Demonstrable experience as a HR Advisor

  • Relevant experience gained in a fast paced, lean environment such as FMCG / Manufacturing (Desirable)

  • Up to date knowledge of basic UK employment legislation and its practical application

  • Strong IT skills including Databases, Word, Excel, Power point and Outlook

  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills

  • Excellent communication skills (written/verbal)

  • Able to express information clearly and concisely

  • Ability to listen carefully in order to understand the needs of others

  • Ability to work flexibly within the needs of the business

  • Evidence of ability to work collaboratively with HR Peers and Line Managers

  • Ability to plan and prioritise own workload when under pressure

  • Able to establish rapport and credibility with others

  • Calm under pressure
