Head of Finance

OA Executive has partnered with a fantastic organisation within the arts sector who are currently looking to recruit a Head of Finance as the current incumbent approaches their retirement. This role will see you manage the full finance function whilst managing a small team, taking responsibility for the efficient and timely preparation of financial accounts, management figures and information as well as budgets.




  • Day to day management of all finances, including income, expenditure, cash flow, raising and paying of invoices, budget management, managing staff and member expenses

  • Work in conjunction with the Senior Management Team to develop management information and to fully participate in the strategic planning and implementation of management policies, strategies and goals

  • Prepare the annual budget and report regularly to the General Secretary, Honorary Treasurer, Council and Senior Management Team on budgetary performance

  • Prepare quarterly VAT returns

  • Explore and initiate opportunities for reducing costs, maximising efficiency and improving the service provided to staff and members and for ensuring the long term financial independence of the Union

  • Prepare the year-end financial accounts and to liaise with the auditors as necessary

  • Manage the finance department and ensure staff are responsive to the needs of users. To ensure the smooth running of the Finance Department and the accuracy, timeliness and probity of financial records

  • Review financial controls and procedures on a regular basis and implement any necessary changes issuing new procedures and guidelines where appropriate

  • Carry out internal financial audits as necessary and prepare ad hoc financial or statistical reports

  • Ensure salaries and wages are paid within set guidelines and on time. To oversee year end payroll returns

  • Ensure the efficient management of the bank accounts and any other accounts held



The ideal candidate for this opportunity will possess a recognised accountancy qualification (or equivalent) and will possess sound experience as a financial and / or management accountant within a similar organisation where you have implemented sound financial controls and procedures. You will have proven staff management skills and will be well versed in maintaining and closing manual and computerised annual accounts as well as pension management.



You will enjoy building relationships with colleagues and stakeholders and will be confident in communicating effectively at all levels. You will be a self-starter who is capable of leading teams and working autonomously. Finally, you will be IT literate and have strong Excel skills as well as be well versed in working with accountancy software packages.
