JOB TITLE: Head of Civil Construction


LOCATION: Honiton


SALARY: £60,000 - £70,000 DOE


HOURS: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm

THE ROLE: The key focus of this role is to take responsibility for the management and leadership of the Civil construction Internal teams and external contractors. This will relate to the Core, Access and Spine parts of the network. To ensure appropriate quality control checks, satisfactorily resolve complaints or problems, and to take responsibility for all activities in construction, supporting the FDT delivery managers in their objectives of delivering monthly HHP targets.



* Manage, coach and mentor direct reports, and ensure their effective supervision of constructions activities.


* Recruit, train, and evaluate team members for ongoing development.


* Be the subject matter expert on Civils' construction related knowledge, including regulations, NRSWA, NJUG and other appropriate Industry standards.


* Form and nurture good relationships with local authorities based on good working practices, completing works on time and to high standards of work and always ensuring public safety and providing excellent customer.


* Excellent practical and theoretical knowledge of working practices and executing construction in the public domain whilst adhering to company and Industry Health and Safety standards.


* Set objectives and priorities for the execution of work in line with the project scope and requirements.


* Ensure that clear and explicit work processes and procedures are established and understood by all assigned parties and set up systems and methodologies to monitor the execution and performance of work of all staff.


* Ensure appropriate KPIs are established to measure the performance of team and team members.


* Preparation of weekly and monthly updates on construction & build issues.


* In cooperation with SMT and other Project Directors, establish processes to ensure full, end-to-end coordination between all involved parties from Planning through Design and Implementation to Integration, Commissioning and Operations of all Network projects.



* Ensuring close relationships and co-operation with both the PIA and Street works teams in order to reduce the amount of potential PCN fines and issues occurring throughout.


* Resolve customer problems and concerns where these relate to JFL's construction activities.


* Work closely with Installation team to ensure timely completion of all orders for installation or service and proper notification procedures for delays in service.


* Ensure that technical, quality and safety standards are always adhered to.


* Ensure effective quality control checks are undertaken of completed works.


* Ensure vehicle and tool audits are performed on a regular basis.


* Organise and follow-up all project tasks to ensure these are completed in an orderly, timely and cost-efficient manner.


* Identify inefficient and costly practices and recommend corrective actions.


* Prepare and recommend improvements enhancing the performance and effectiveness of the Construction & OSP Department.


* Oversee preparation of regular and ad hoc project reports and ensure these are complete and fully cover all key project issues, including recommendations for improvements and changes, as necessary.
