Our client is a design and manufacturer of ladies clothing for popular high street retailers. The company has been established for over 20 years and has grown positive and reliable relationships with its customers and suppliers over the years. The company has recently undergone a management restructure and invested in its future with a brand-new head office located in North London



Job Purpose:


To manage and be responsible for the everyday financial operation of the company (ies) and support the managing director in carrying out the strategy of the business. The role is the sole financial position within the business and therefore varies due to projects ongoing at the time. The role involves building and maintaining relationships with the design and operation staff within the business as well as external stakeholders such as suppliers, financial institutions, and auditors. The role extends to the activities of the group, which includes a smaller sister company and other companies relating to properties.



Area of Responsibility:




  • Overall responsibility for all financial aspects for the group.

  • Ownership of the daily maintenance and financial function for the group.

  • Production and analysis of accurate and meaningful quarterly management accounts (P&L, Balance Sheet, Variance analysis) and manage the reports through to management and external parties such as banks.

  • Primary contact for the auditors and managing the year end audit including drafting annual statutory accounts for the group.

  • Cashflow management on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.

  • Prepare & review the cash flow forecasting to represent accurate future trading. Forecasting for projects scenarios where external finance/support is required.

  • Assist the managing director as a member of the senior team in the strategy of the company.

  • Primary contact for banking relationships. Delivering specific information where required.

  • Maintenance of stock records and cost analysis of each product sold.

  • Oversee the invoice process and reconciliation to external documentation

  • Prepare and review payroll submitted by external providers

  • Preparation & maintenance of staff contracts and being a point of contact for any HR concerns. This includes disputes, additions of staff and terminations of staff employment.

  • Manage the sales order process across the necessary systems of the business and provide regular sales updates to management

  • Manage the foreign exchange transactions of the business

  • HMRC reporting i.e VAT

  • Maintenance of the general ledger

  • A general financial P.A role where anything financial comes is reviewed, controlled and monitored and with the best interests of the business.


Skills / Attributes Required



  • Experience within an Owner Managed Business.

  • Preferably in the sole financial role or a small team.

  • ACA/ACCA preferential but not essential if qualified by experience

  • Must have good use of SAGE Accounts Line 50

  • Good use and knowledge of excel (Intermediate)

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English

  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal skills

  • Self-disciplined and ability to work on own initiative and ability to prioritise work

  • Exceptional time management skills to meet deadlines with the ability to thrive whilst working under pressure

  • A perfectionist; uncomfortable with accounting uncertainty

  • High standards of regulatory compliance

  • An organized individual, flexible and happy to undertake any task in support of management

  • Should have a positive "can do" attitude combined with a flexible approach to the tasks required.

  • Someone who wants to make a positive contribution and puts forward ideas to promote positive change

  • Someone who wants to 'own' the role, and takes pride in their work ethic
