Job Title: Finance Assistant

Location: Hedge End

Salary: £30,000

Working Hours: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (Monday to Thursday), 8:00 am - 4:00 pm (Friday)

We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join a leading manufacturing company based in Hedge End. The successful candidate will have previous experience within finance and can speak French or German.


  • Cash Management: Post cash receipts and direct debit payments in multiple currencies and perform bank reconciliations.

  • Credit Control: Chase outstanding debts through statements, reminder letters, emails, and phone calls, resolve queries on invoices, handle CCJ claims, manage write-offs, release customer orders in the ERP system.

  • Expenses: Complete monthly expense reports using Concur software, enter expenses into the ERP system for payment.

  • Purchase Ledger: Input invoices, assign nominal codes, match with purchase orders, generate reports, execute bi-weekly payment runs, set up new supplier accounts.

  • Journals: Prepare and post monthly journals, including prepayments, expenses accruals, rebates accruals, and depreciation.

  • Fixed Assets Register: Update and reconcile the Fixed Assets Register to the trial balance, record new purchases, disposals, and depreciation.

  • VAT: Complete quarterly VAT returns using Making Tax Digital and manage monthly French VAT returns.

  • Month-End Activities: Reconcile ledgers, allocate transactions, resolve queries, prepare various reports, assist in preparing profit and loss and balance sheet.


  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a Finance Assistant role.

  • AAT Qualified or studying CIMA.

  • Fluent in written and spoken English and French or German.

  • Organised, accurate, articulate, and able to prioritise workload under pressure.

  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to people at all levels.

  • Flexible, adaptable, enthusiastic, and proactive attitude.

  • Proficient in MS Office (especially Excel) and ERP software.

  • A great team player.
