Our client is an Academy based near Brixton, they have a strong pupil focus, celebrated in their recent Ofsted Report, an ideal working environment for someone looking for a lovely working environment.

Based in the school office, you will join their team on a temporary basis within the School Finance Team. Within this role you will involve assisting with the maintenance of all accounts, budgets and funds across the Trust and its schools.

Role: School Finance Assistant

HOURS: 8am - 4pm, Part-time

SALARY: £12-£16 per hour depending on experience

  • To act as the finance assistant within the team, mentoring and supporting the finance assistant when required.

  • To act primarily as the Finance Business Partner for one of the Trust schools (South Bank University Academy or South Bank UTC) and support the other school when required.

  • To act as the Trust finance partner, taking responsibility for the Trust purchase ledger.

  • To support the Senior Finance Officer with banking requisitions.

  • To maintain and update the computerised (PSFinancials) and manual records in relation to all financial transactions.

    • Converting requisitions into POs.

    • Process invoices, credit notes, staff expenses.

    • Sending POs to suppliers.

    • Creating payment runs.

    • Liaising with budget holders and staff, following up on any non-conformance to process and explaining the procedure/initiating training where required.

    • Contacting and liaising with suppliers.

    • Following up on any outstanding invoices.

    • Ensuring PSF procurement process is followed correctly by all users.`

  • Monitor accounting systems to determine accounts are being maintained effectively and provide information on accounting practices to auditors.

  • To liaise with the relevant school contact to process and make bursary payments to eligible students.

  • To actively assist the Senior Finance Officer in the Year-End close down process, and to provide any supporting information or analysis to internal and external auditors as necessary.


  • Proficient user of the Microsoft suite of applications.

  • Experience of creating and maintaining filing systems.

  • Organised and efficient, with excellent attention to detail.

  • Constantly improving own practice/knowledge through self-evaluation and learning from others.

  • Ability to relate to students and understand the educational context of the organisation.

  • Able to work constructively as part of a team, but also with autonomy when required.
