Category Manager

OA Executive are currently looking to recruit for Category Manager to join a well regarded healthcare organisation based in South East London. This role will see you take responsibility for a specific set of categories whilst maintaining a highly professional and responsive client service approach.



Acting as the main point of contact, you will implementing strategic sourcing and strong stakeholder management to maintain the lowest costs and strengthen existing relationships with key suppliers.




  • Implement procurement strategy and lead operational planning

  • Update risk assessments for relevant areas

  • Take the lead for the procurement process by delivering a portfolio of complex and/or high value contracts

  • Produce complex tender documentation for the client and lead tender adjudication and supplier meetings pre-and post-tender

  • Look for new business opportunities and continuously improve the quality of service to clients

  • Attend client base review meetings, forge collaborative relationships and follow up on any issues/actions agreed

  • Contribute to the leadership and management of large procurement projects with clinical and non- clinical colleagues

  • Research the market to assess risk and trends

  • Introduce new and innovative services and products to stakeholders

  • Implement and monitor contract initiatives and conduct market research to support arguments for change

  • Authorise new contracts and purchase orders

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures

  • Undertake benefits tracking to monitor levels of procurement achieved within client base

  • Use operational networks to raise the profile of procurement and highlight its value

  • Line Manage a buyer and undertake shared management responsibility for the buying team

  • Provide effective leadership by delegating objectives, clarifying reporting lines and levels of accountability to ensure effective use of resources

  • Provide support, guidance and feedback through staff appraisals, 1-2-1 and team meetings



The ideal candidate for this role will ideally have a proven track record of delivering cost reductions, negotiating large contracts and a sound understanding of category and contract management. You will be well versed in resolving queries, managing stakeholder engagements, building client relationships and handling complex tenders.



Furthermore, you will have excellent communication skills, have the ability to negotiate, confidence in dealing with stakeholders and capable of working towards budgets and timescales. Finally, you will ideally be educated to degree level (or equivalent) and a good working knowledge of MS Office.
