JOB TITLE: Building and Maintenance Assistant

LOCATION: Plymouth

HOURS: 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday

SALARY: £24,000 - £26,500 per annum dependent on experience

THE ROLE: Sitting within the Business Services Team, the post holder will be responsible for ensuring the buildings internal and external spaces are maintained to the highest of standards and that any remedial works required are completed promptly.


  • Ensuring that the external premises, entrances and paths are kept tidy and presentable - free of litter, leaves, grit etc.

  • Undertaking regular inspections of the building and grounds at regular intervals throughout the day

  • Completing any emergency and routine cleaning duties that are required

  • Carrying out day-to-day maintenance and minor repairs

  • Painting and Decorating

  • Providing first line maintenance of fixtures and fittings in a prompt manner

  • Performing and documenting routine inspections and maintenance activities

  • Monitoring stock levels of all relevant consumable items

  • Disposing of waste materials

  • Reporting equipment faults

  • Assisting with the set up and clearing away of furniture

  • Providing ad hoc Business Services support


  • Strong DIY skills and the ability to carry out minor repairs confidently and independently

  • Problem solving skills - the ability to identify issues and deal with them promptly & effectively

  • The ability to use initiative and work with minimal supervision

  • The ability to manage your own workload

  • Someone who is presentable and able to demonstrate and provide a professional service

  • Excellent client service skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a range of people

  • Someone who is approachable, friendly and diplomatic

  • A positive 'can do' attitude

  • Someone who exhibits passion, care and pride in their work

  • A knowledge of Health and Safety practices
