Not everyone knows this, but your skin tone determines which colours you should and shouldn’t wear. Do you ever get the feeling that on certain days you look particularly pale and pasty? This could be because of the colours you have put on.
Using colour analysis, you’ll be able to work out whether warm or cool shades suit you and use these to improve your everyday appearance. Warm colours are those with a yellow undertone such as gold, orange-brown, khaki, burnt red, camel and beige. Cool colours are those which have a blue undertone and include icy shades such as grey, blue, fuchsia, purple, black and white.
If you don’t know which tones suit you, there is a simple way to find out. You’ll need good natural light, a large mirror, a hairband a white shirt or fabric and a cream shirt or fabric.
Make sure your hair is off your face and take off all make up and jewellery. Look in the mirror and hold the white fabric under your chin, then repeat with the cream fabric. Look at your eyes and see if you can see them light up. If you’re warm, you’ll get a warm glow with the cream fabric while the white fabric will make you look drawn and vice versa.
If you’re warm, you’ll more than likely have one of the following combinations:
Natural hair colour: copper, chestnut, dark golden blonde, red, light or dark auburn
Eye colour: brown, hazel, light green or light blue
Complexion: yellow-beige, golden-brown, peach or ivory. You may also have freckles and tan easily.
If you’re cool, your combination will be one of the following:
Natural hair colouring: black, dark brown, ash blonde, silver grey, white,
Eye colour: dark brown, dark green, dark hazel or dark blue.
Complexion: African/Caribbean, olive, fair, rosy or pale.
If you have white skin, it very often burns in the sun.
If you’re warm, try to stick to shades of brown, tan, green, teal, gold, burnt orange and warm red. If you’re cool, you’ll need to stick to pinks, purples, lilacs, grey, burgundy, blacks and blues. Suddenly it will all make sense and even your make up will take on your chosen tone. Gone are the days of looking pasty for no reason.
