Spring fashion for the office

The weather might not be showing it at the moment, but Spring is here, and with it comes a multitude of new fashion and accessories that will look great both in and out of the office.  It’s time to shake up your work wardrobe and embrace the new  trends, as Spring fashion for 2012 will provide you with plenty of options to keep you looking smart and stylish.

This season’s staples

Loose, flowing tunic tops are all the rage this season, especially those with a summery floral print. They are ideal for tucking in to pencil skirts or layering over a basic pair of flared dress trousers, and look great paired with a 3/4-sleeve sweater or a blazer. They offer a versatile, comfortable look which can work out of the office too, so invest in a tunic top to make your office-wear to evening-wear transition hassle free.

Maxi skirts and dresses are a must have for Spring, and will keep you cool when the weather (eventually!) warms up. White is the perfect colour choice for this type of garment, as it’s a crisp, clean colour that goes with almost everything. However, if your workplace rules are too strict for maxis, buying a nice fitted white shirt and pairing it with a traditional business suit maintain this fresh feel in a more formal environment. White can be very fun, with a little bit of creativity.

Chiffon dresses that hit just above your knee are another excellent choice for Spring work-wear. These kinds of dresses are feminine and elegant, and are another great example of a style that will work for day and night. Try a dress with embellished patterns - perfect when paired with a plain cardigan or blazer for smart casual chic.

Fashion for your feet

When it comes to footwear, court shoes are a wardrobe staple that is once again proving popular this season. They go work well with skirts or trousers and look smart without being overly formal, making them a great choice for the office. If you are only buying one pair of shoes this Spring, white court shoes will be a very good choice. If you’re more into flats, more relaxed offices may also allow comfy ballet pumps, which come in a variety of colours and are sure to put a spring in your step.

Accents and accessories

Accenting your outfits with a tan belt or accordion bag will bring your look together and keep you looking and feeling smart and stylish. Stacked wooden bangles or a well placed brooch can make all the difference to an outfit, so hit the jewellery shops and choose your favourite pieces for a bit of added glamour. Accessories can be fun even if you have to wear a suit – for instance, a chunky necklace can add sparkle to a plain blazer or dress, and keep you high in the style stakes.

Regardless of whether the dress code at your work is formal or a little more relaxed, you can have a lot of fun with this season’s fashion by investing in some key pieces.
